new york new york

day one. the numbers so far:

one really big travel mess caused by one sick flight attendant which affected at least one thousand people and which caused us to be travelling about eight hours longer than planned; that is, a journey of thirty-six hours from home in melbourne to the holiday inn on lafayette

three jet-lagged company members wandering the streets at three am who saw three (or maybe four) rats and three (or maybe four) NYPD cop cars and ate three (only) slices of pizza and slept for three (or maybe four) hours

one incredibly beautiful view of the statue of liberty from the staten island ferry terminal where we are performing the play

five big trucks

two successful trips on the subway accompanied by one abba tribute group with live pan-pipes and one group of break-dancers

one excellent coffee at cafe gitane (thank you god)

seven crates of freight which haven't arrived on time or to schedule, which are still tied up in customs, which may get released tomorrow but which may not and thus may create one nasty headache for small metal objects

one mobile phone that's just not working (mine)

one huge, humbling hole in the ground

two new fake moustaches for sonia to wear in the play. pretty.

one outing of the puffer jacket which my friend melanie very kindly lent me for this trip but in fact it was about fifteen degrees (celsius) in new york today and so i was a bit hot but one happy lady in it anyway and very home amongst the twenty-seven i saw on the streets: large, small, shiny, matt, pink, black and one spotty

one lovely glass of red wine accompanied by four delicious assiettes including one of gorgonzola, walnuts and honey and one of herb and chilli coated goats' cheese with pomegranate sauce and later one more bottle of red wine

eight cute dogs, two cute guys. hmmmm.

yuh huh. one great day
