alias Grace in Kuala Lumpur, Day 1

sitting, surrounded by wood and marble and lots of people with beautiful dark hair and skin. it's the coffee place of the hotel...the first port of call to get settled, oh, well, after the bar last night of course, where i pretty much had to have two lychee mochitos. this morning, the coffee, american style, is pretty ordinary. naturally.

we arrived late last night, after a crowded flight from Melbourne, during which I very happily watched The Big Sleep and Face/Off, both very entertaining films. after being picked up by our driver for the week we then had about a 45min drive, really really fast, with windows open, on a big motorway into KL. we travelled through lots of trees, plantations of palms and other trees. really beautiful. it was 28 degrees and everything smelt kind of swampy and fecund, with a hint of burning trees...

i have the day off today and soon will go out into the heat, exploring, seeing what there is to see. from my room i have a view of the patronas towers which are incredibly beautiful, delicate and jewel-like; a feat, considering they are apparently the tallest buildings in the world. or something like it.

laurence and armando, who don’t get the day off today, are at the theatre, KLPAC, bumping in the set, focusing and plotting. this afternoon, after my outing, I will spend some time with the script, going over my lines, trying to get all the “ands” and “buts” and “he saids” and “she saids” and “thens” into the right places.

watched a little of the Breakfast show this morning, “the show worth getting up for” which we are appearing on tomorrow. the backdrop: a groovy kitchen with lots of lime green. am much clearer about my outfit.

and so, the adventure begins.
