About Caroline

Caroline has worked with various companies including the STC, MTC, Malthouse, Aphids, Back to Back Theatre, Hildegard, Playbox (Raw) and La Mama. Highlights include playing Deborah in A Kind of Alaska for the STC, Natasha in Three Sisters at Theatreworks, Dora in A Portrait of Dora by Helene Cixous, Emily, a recovering heroin addict in Ordinary Misery at La Mama, and Grace Marks in the highly successful one-woman adaptation of alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, which was performed in Sydney, Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur.

In the last few years Caroline has also participated in a number of successful projects developing innovative text and design orientated performance, for example, her own work The Three Interiors of Lola Strong, which premiered at fortyfivedownstairs in Feb 2003, The Long Slow Death of a Porn Star, directed by Anna Tregloan and developed in collaboration with Anna Tregloan, David Franzke and Victoria Huff, and Stories from the Hidden City, a large community based project directed by Bagryana Popov and performed at the Melbourne Museum. All of these projects involved collaborative relationships between directors, writers and performers, and substantial amounts of textual analysis and revision, a process which Caroline finds incredibly productive and rewarding.

Last year Caroline performed the lead role of Deborah in A Kind of Alaska by Harold Pinter, directed by Cate Blanchett for the STC; appeared in Black at the Malthouse, a performance installation about the Black Dahlia murder in Hollywood in the 1940’s; and done a season of alias Grace in Kuala Lumpur.

Most recently Caroline has played the role of Carolyn in Small Metal Objects with Back to Back Theatre in a tour of New York (where the production received a Bessie Award), Toronto and Vancouver; appeared in the new television series Bogan Pride, played a guest role in Satisfaction and will soon appear in Care Instructions at the Carlton Courthouse.

Caroline's film and television appearances include Bogan Pride, Satisfaction, Stingers, MDA, Halifax fp, Blue Heelers, Neighbours, Holidays on the River Yarra and Dogs in Space, as well as a number of smaller film projects with independent producers.

Caroline has completed the Professional Writing and Editing course at RMIT. She has had a number of short stories published, received first prize for a short story in the Fellowship of Australian Writers writing competition, and won the Marion Eldridge Award for emerging woman writers. Her novel, Stripped, is currently being serialsed in Meanjin, and she has started working as a professional editor.

In both 2001 and 2002 she received the Green Room Award for Best Actress in Fringe/Independent theatre for her roles in alias Grace and Ordinary Misery.
